A church in Minnesota, USA, has responded after a woman in their church has been charged with the murder of her missionary husband in Angola.
Jackie Shroyer has been charged with the murder of Detroit Lakes missionary, Beau Shroyer, after she was arrested last November. The Shroyers, including their five children, were based in Angola as missionaries, and Jackie Shroyer is alleged to have ordered the murder of her husband after becoming romantically involved with another man.
Beau, who along with his family, were members of the Lakes Area Vineyard Church, relocated his family to Angloa in 2021 and was serving there with SIM-USA, a ministry with a base in the troubled region.
“I made the commitment that I would update you on any news regarding the investigation around Beau Shroyer’s death,” Lakes Area Vineyard’s lead pastor, Troy Easton, stated in a release obtained by Julie Roys.
“It saddens me immensely to have to share with you that we were notified that Jackie has been formally charged as a co-author in the murder of her husband. As a result of formal charges, it is our understanding that she will remain in custody and tried before a judge.”
Authorities claim that a guard was hired by the missionary and allegedly organised the murder with the support of two other men.
They say the murder of the American missionary was carried out at the behest of his wife and organised by a man who had been hired by the couple “because he appeared to be a good person”, said the SIC Criminal Investigation Service.
Shroyer was stabbed on October 25 in a bush in the Palanca commune on the outskirts of the municipality of Humpata in the province of Huíla.
Three people, two men and Jackie Shroyer were arrested and a fourth suspect “with active participation in the crime” was on the run, said SIC general spokesman Manuel Halaiwa, who said that those arrested were being held late last year.
“The court date has not yet been set, but will likely occur within the next six months,” Pastor Easton said.
“Beau and Jackie’s children will continue to be cared for by close family with support from both SIM and Lakes Area Vineyard Church. In light of the ongoing judicial process, we will not be able to comment any further at this time. I’m so very sorry.”
