JULITA EXPLORES: Two ‘ordinary’ miracles

I want to tell you two little stories about our Heavenly Father. Nothing earth-shattering. No mountains moving, no seas parting. Just two ordinary moments that reminded me how extraordinary our God is.

A few days ago, my daughter Julicha, who works from home, mentioned how much she wanted to get out of the house for a bit and go for breakfast with me.

Now, I am ALWAYS up for breakfast, so my immediate response was, “Come!  Let’s go!”

But then she explained that she couldn’t. Her husband had ordered a few things online, and two parcels were due to be delivered that day.

From experience, she knew that Takealot usually delivers sometime during the morning, while The Courier Guy tends to arrive around lunchtime or later. So she would have to stay home and wait. It was around 9am.  She lives in Fisherhaven, and the nearest town, Hermanus, is about 20 minutes away. So it’s not as though she could quickly pop home if a courier arrived while she was out.

Oh, she looked SO sad! Hehehe.

So I said: “Julicha, you are God’s child. Ask our Father in Heaven to send both those parcels within the next 30 minutes. And as a step of faith, go get dressed so we can go!”

Well, she looked at me and said: “Mommy, it’s not as if they’re around the corner! They come all the way from Cape Town. They don’t even deliver to Fisherhaven first!”

But of course, I wasn’t on that page at all! I have seen too much of this God who can do anything. I prayed a simple prayer asking the Lord to please send both parcels within the next 30 minutes.

And Julicha went to her room to get dressed.

Ten minutes later…

A hoot at the gate!  The first courier had arrived!  And while she was signing for the first parcel, THE SECOND COURIER PULLED UP AT THE GATE!  Hehehehe!  Julicha was absolutely blown away!

So off we went for breakfast.  And while we were sitting there, I looked at her and asked: “Do you have ANY idea how much God loves you?”

Because here is the thing…

These courier companies don’t just throw all their parcels into a truck in the morning and then decide where they feel like delivering first!  Their routes are carefully planned, often the day before.  Which means that for those two courier vehicles to arrive at her gate within minutes of each other, God already knew the day before what His daughter would be longing for that morning.  And HE was the route planner.

He knew what the prayer would be  and He had already made provision.

Now, let me tell you another little story.

My seven-year-old granddaughter, Luka, recently came to spend some time with me. During our playdate, she told me how she wanted a baby kitten. Not just any kitten, mind you. A REALLY tiny one!

But there was a problem. They already have three dogs, and she was quite convinced that her mommy would say no. You see, they had a cat before, but sadly it was run over by a car. After that, her mommy decided there would be no more cats. So Luka asked me how we could approach Mommy and convince her to say yes.

I told her: “Luka, why don’t we pray about it? Let’s ask Jesus to prepare Mommy’s heart.”

And so we did.

Well…

Luka with her little kitten, Charlie

That afternoon, I took Luka home.  And when we walked through the door, you will NEVER guess what was waiting for her!  Her mommy was standing there holding a TWO-WEEK-OLD KITTEN!

Now, you need to understand something.  My daughter-in-law fosters puppies that have been mistreated or abandoned. She works with an animal rescue organisation that normally only fosters DOGS.  But that very day, the organisation had received a tiny kitten and didn’t know what to do with it.  And when my daughter-in-law heard about it, she simply said: “I’ll take it.”

JUST LIKE THAT!

There stood Luka, looking at this tiny kitten.  The very thing she had been longing for.  The very thing she thought her mommy would never allow.  But Jesus knew.  And Luka did not even have to ask!

Hehehehe!

Can you imagine?  We had prayed for God to prepare her mommy’s heart, and meanwhile, He had already been arranging for a tiny kitten to find its way into that home!  Luka will always remember what God did with this little kitten. In future, when times might be challenging, she will remember she can ask Jesus and He will go before her.

And I just stood there in amazement at our Father.  Because once again, He knew before we even asked.

We often think of God in terms of the BIG things. Healing the sick. Providing finances. Opening impossible doors. Saving lives. Changing nations.  And yes, He does all of that.  But sometimes I think we forget that He is also our FATHER.  Not a distant God who is only interested in the serious matters of life.  A Father who knows and loves His children.

How GREAT is our God!

I don’t believe we should ever reduce God to someone who simply grants our wishes. We all know that sometimes His answer is no, and sometimes we wait a very long time.  But sometimes, He gives us a little glimpse of how intimately involved He is in our everyday lives.  Not because we earned it. Not because we prayed some extraordinary prayer. But simply because He loves us.

And I wonder how many times He has quietly arranged things in our lives that we never even recognised as His loving hand.

“And it shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” — Isaiah 65:24 (KJV)

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” — Psalm 37:4 (KJV)

What a God!!!
