More than two million babies have been killed in South Africa by abortion since abortion on demand was legalised on February 1 1997.

To mark this 26th anniversary a number of Christians and congregations in SA will observe Sunday January 29 as Sanctitty Life Sunday — a day of prayer and repentance for the national sin of abortion.

On February 1 African Christian Action (AFA) will host a March for Life to Parliament, followed by a Prayer vigil and repentance service outside the gates of Parliament, as it has done annually on each anniversary of the abortion law.

AFA writes in a press release: “The March for Life is in the form of a funeral procession, in which we take a walk through the centre of town to Parliament. The procession will gather at the Hanover St. (old Keizergracht St.) parking lot below Cape Peninsula University of Technology (near the wall painting of an African woman) and march down Darling Street, past the Castle and City Hall, left into Adderley Street, left into Spin Street, then right into Plein Street to assemble outside the gates of Parliament. The march will start at 12:30 pm. Please dress in black for a greater impact to accentuate the need for national repentance and bring your own water. We will provide placards and crosses for you to carry.”

AFA invites citizens to join the events. If you are not able to join the March you are welcome to join the prayer vigil outside Parliament from 1pm.

March for Life in US post-Roe v Wade

Meanwhile, in the US, where the Roe v Wade legislation which legalised abortion nationwide was reversed by the Supreme Court in June last year, a 50th anniversary March for Life is scheduled to take place on the Washington Mall today (Friday January 20). While the landmark Supreme Court judgment has led to a significant decrease in abortion in some states, abortions are still taking babies’ lives in the US.

The reversal of Roe v Wade allows states to determine their own abortion laws. In North Carolina, where abortion is permitted through 20 weeks of pregnancy, about 1 000 anti-abortion protesters descended on Raleigh last Saturday to pray and march past the governor’s house, for the state’s 25th annual March for Life, reports Christian Headlines.
