African Enterprise (AE) mission teams were granted rare access to two royal palaces during a five-day evangelism outreach held in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, from April 29 to May 3.
The outreach, titled “Mission Royale”, formed part of AE South Africa’s broader evangelistic ministry and focused on engaging communities throughout Nongoma — an area widely regarded as the heart of the Zulu Kingdom because of its deep cultural heritage and royal significance. The region is home to several royal residences linked to the late King Goodwill Zwelithini.
One of the most notable moments of the mission came when the team was invited to the Kwakhangelamankengane Royal Palace, where members of the outreach team met and prayed with Queen Mother Mantfombi kaSobhuza II and Queen Buhle KaMathe. According to African Enterprise, access to the royal households was made possible through relationships with local churches and Christian leaders in the area.
The palace visits formed part of AE’s broader strategy of “stratified evangelism” — an outreach model that seeks to engage different sectors of society simultaneously. During the five-day mission, teams ministered in schools, clinics, shopping centres, taxi ranks, police stations, government spaces and neighbourhood communities across Nongoma.

AE South Africa CEO and team leader Theuns Pauw said the outreach created opportunities that the organisation does not often encounter during its missions.
“The mission went very well, and we had some amazing and rare opportunities to share the Gospel, including at two royal palaces,” Pauw said after the outreach. “We believe God is opening doors for transformation in the heart of the Zulu Kingdom.”
He said the mission was not only about organised outreach activities, but also about encouraging Christians involved in the mission to examine their own spiritual priorities and commitment to Christ.
In a devotional message shared with supporters through AE’s Facebook page and newsletter during the outreach, Pauw reflected on Matthew 6:21: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Using the Scripture passage as a challenge to believers, he encouraged Christians to consider whether their lives, schedules and spending habits genuinely reflect their devotion to God.
AE has been involved in evangelism across Africa for more than six decades, partnering with churches, community leaders and ministries in cities, towns and rural communities. In addition to large-scale evangelistic missions, the organisation runs youth empowerment and discipleship initiatives in several African countries.
According to AE, the Nongoma outreach aimed not only to preach the Gospel publicly, but also to strengthen relationships with local churches and encourage ongoing ministry within the community after the mission teams departed.
The outreach demonstrated how ministry opportunities can emerge across every level of society — from public gathering spaces and schools to traditional leadership structures and royal households.
