WATCH: Huge PE bush fire stops short of row of houses, ‘Face of Jesus’

The Face of Jesus artwork at Schoenies, near PE, which was unharmed by a fire which charred a wide area of bush in the area

Wessel Kotzee, one of the artists who created the Face of Jesus prophetic landscape artwork at Schoenmakerskop to the south of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth, made the video clip below in which he shows that a huge bushfire that swept through a large area of coastal bush stopped short of the artwork and an adjacent row of houses.

Praising Jesus, he says it is “a massive miracle” that the fire raged through surrounding bush but somehow spared the Face of Jesus and the houses, leaving unscathed a narrow strip of green bush alongside the seafront properties.

Since yesterday local firefighters have fought hard to contain the fire that started in the Sardinia Bay area and spread across a wide area in windy conditions. The fire led to some road closures, the evacuation of some homes, some damage to properties and sadly, six puppies died at an evacuated property.

Wessel told Gateway News that due to the sandy terrain behind the houses firefighting vehicles could not reach the area. He said a resident told him they were exhausted, having been up until 1am this morning with garden hoses.
