Whatever is Lovely: A Coloring Book for Reflection and Worship — Book review

john-20-picBook Review by Val Viljoen

I have been eyeing out adult colouring books for some time, wondering if acquiring one for myself would indeed lead to a therapeutic and fulfilling past-time. I was therefore delighted to receive Whatever is Lovely: A Coloring Book for Reflection and Worship for review.

Having now spent many happy hours lost in this activity, I can now vouch for the fact that it is positively addictive. Sometimes I combine my creative endeavors with listening to worship music or audible versions of the bible, sometines I chat, and sometimes I just sit in silence. (I did try colouring and watching a movie at the same time – I had to rewatch the movie. So I don’t recommend that!)

Every page of Whatever is Lovely features a contemplative quote, either from scripture, a hymn or an inspirational writer. Each has been beautifully illustrated by one of a dozen artists, so there is a variety of styles. A fuller version of the quote is given on the back of each page, so there us plenty of inspiration for meditation and worship as you get creative with your colours.

We all need a way to deal with the stresses of life. In Phil 4 vs 8 we are told by Paul to think on “whatever is lovely”. This book is a wonderful resource for doing just that.
